Purpose of a Designer

Simplicity is a process, complication is a definitive and irrevocable conclusion. Isn’t it said that the simplest solutions are generally the best? Why? Because we can explain them better. When it’s complicated, you can’t explain them. It’s easy to understand, isn’t it?

This is a phenomenon with which we are familiar, mainly because we do not really have a choice. But at some point you have to decide what to do and how to do it. And experience plays an essential role in all our decisions.

The designer’s first goal is clarification. Make intelligible and clear what may not be clear at first sight. A designer will not be able to work effectively on a text that he has not read and understood. If the ideas expressed are not clear to the designer, his work will not be complete. You can’t share what you don’t have.

The designer’s second goal is dissemination and sharing. Others would express these concepts as “the exhibition”. That is, to give as many people as possible to know and see a job. Hell is paved with good intentions, it is commonly said. Because clarity and exposure are two simple concepts that are, despite everything, not easy to achieve.

Unless you’re thinking clearly. And if one thing must be well established, it is that to make it simple, one must think simple.

The designer’s work begins with that, establishing the chain of events that will lead the reader to understand a content, and translate it graphically to facilitate its assimilation. As a series of arguments that would gradually lead to a conclusion.

Thinking simple, in short, means avoiding digressions, saying only what is essential, going straight to the point. And that’s the job of the graphic designer. Establish a visual link between the content, its understanding and the reader by avoiding detours, digressions and anecdotes. A designer’s last thought in the final review of his work should be, “Is this element really necessary, does it bring anything to understanding? ».
