What I learned After 1 Month of Writing on Medium

Tips From a Fledgling Writer

Last month I started writing on Medium for the first time. We all know that one of the things they recommend is to write periodically with at least 2 articles per week and so I tried to continue with that for one month and here is what I learned.

The topics I wrote on were self-development and science. Here’s what I learned from this short experiment:

Pretty obvious given the system but still it’s worth keeping in mind. When we start on something we always have to search for ways to give it the first boost. As Alberto Laszlo says in his book Formula-Universal-Laws-Success, having those first few likes creates momentum that helps us succeed along the way.

A tool that worked for me was Manystories. It serves as a way to complement it is quite useful because it gives you way more visibility. The volume of stories there is smaller and as such your story can stay on the front page longer.

So, apart from the usual sharing of what you write in social media platforms, and writing for publications, I would really recommend writing for other platforms such as Manystories.

While the combined views of 14 articles are 106, most of the views and reads I obtained came from the articles on personal growth.

This showed me that articles for topics based on personal growth perform way better. Although it could also be due to an initial boost in visibility given by many stories since I am having trouble replicating the results.
