I remember the first time I kissed a trans woman, I also went skinny dipping. I went from 0 to 60 pretty quickly that night.

I was a 22-year-old, had graduated from Indiana University, was living at my parent’s place in the summer and working part time jobs.

I was also trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life.

I was scared out of my mind the first time I went through the front door and downstairs into the bar area of the old fraternal hall. I didn’t know if someone I knew from town would see me going in and tell my parents, or all my friends, or put it into the newspaper. I was pretty paranoid, until I was safely in the bar surrounded by friendly people. I thought people could read my mind and would know I was going to a gay bar. If I would have had Prozac back in those days, I would have been a lot better off.

Ballantine was the big classroom building, so you could also find Russians there as well during the Cold War in the language department.
