On Resistance

What prevents us from making our art?

The fear of being rejected. The humiliation of starting off as a newbie. The paralysing yearning for perfection. The dread of not being ready. The horror of betraying perceived expectations. The terror of huge effort blantly dismissed.

We are apt at rationalising why we are at the stage we are now, and why now is not the best time to create — to write consistently, to learn the frontiers, to exercise or to cultivate deep relationships. So we never get to the perfect conditions — unless we seize the moment and take control.

The resistance and fear will continue to whisper the words of doubt. Recognise and tame them by showing up and making your art.
