Why we take Engineering?

It became common today to see an engineer in every single home, to see engineers in every kind of job. Without an engineer nothing can be done here. Yes, from bank to farming; in every single place engineers are there, rather than playing a vital role, they are doing the work of others. Why has this happened? Why can’t an engineer get a job,Whom to blame? The Engineering students or their parents or the politicians or those college owners? Who sowed these seeds? Let’s see it.

When we were children we have more options for our future starting from lawyer, pilot, doctor, collector, police, IAS, IPS. But we reach some specific stage of our life, where we stick to a specific thing which gives us better salary, which strikes us within 5 years after we finish our schooling. First option that reaches our mind is engineering, there are only two simple ways to join engineering college. First one you want to have better knowledge in basic physics, chemistry and mathematics. Another way is not depend on you it’s up to your parent’s financial background. There is a usual third way, just join in the ordinary college.

So the quality of the engineering students produced by the colleges decreases. If this is the status of the good scoring students, then the status of the average or low scoring students are even worse. So it is stated that anyone can study engineering. The main question is, who is to be blamed for the decrease in the quality of engineering? , students or the society.
IAS and IPS examinations require bachelor’s degree. So the students choose engineering. If they are not eligible for MBBS, then they chose B.E without any interest. Students nowadays don’t even know the real value and differences between various branches. This doesn’t stop here, after the completion of the course the students are not employable, so most of them are unemployed. Instead of giving quality education, in order to meet the demand they start 540 colleges to give the state a good literacy rate. So everyone starts to become an engineer and thus decreasing the value.

Engineering colleges have been springing up like wild mushrooms in India in the last few years. Their number has gone up from a not too modest 1,511 colleges in 2006–07 to an astoundingly high 3,345 in 2014–15. The state of Andhra Pradesh alone has more than 700 colleges.

If these figures are anything to go by, it would be easy to be led into believing that opting for a degree in engineering would be a wise career move in India. The fact, however, remains that 20–33% out of the 1.5 million engineers in India are passing out every year run the risk of not getting a job at all, points out Economic Times. For those who do, the entry-level salary is pathetically low and has stagnated at that level for the last eight-nine years, though the prices of everything from groceries to vehicle fuel have shot up during the same period.

Reason why engineers are unemployed?

As per the recent statistics of a well-known magazine, 20%-30% of Indian Engineering graduates do not get hired and most of them get hired well below their TECHNICAL QUALIFICATION. Six very important reasons for this are:

TOO MANY ENGINEERS: There are only so many new jobs being created every year. The number of new engineers is far higher.

LACK OF EXPOSURE: Most Indian engineering colleges provide no or very bad internship opportunities. Most engineers have no clue what the industry actually is like.

THEORY VS PRACTICAL: Most of the engineering colleges and their Boards never think of providing a quality time on PRACTICAL approach for students. Hands On experience & Real time applications is something not seen in most of the engineering colleges

RIGIDITY: Most Indian engineering students are incapable of working without strict guidelines. For most product companies, this is a problem. Engineers have to think. Not just follow orders.

LACK OF DISCIPLINE: Seriously. Tell an engineering student that tomorrow’s test is cancelled. I will bet s/he will stop studying. This is really not acceptable. No employer has the patience to ensure there is always a carrot on the stick to keep you focused.

ATTITUDE ISSUES: Indian engineering students are for the most part incapable of acknowledging that they screwed up. I know people who have been recruited simply because they could accept that they screwed up. It’s really important in a job that you can man up and acknowledge your mistakes before it becomes a very costly bug in the final product.

Out of 8 lakh graduate engineers, 60 per cent remain jobless in India

Engineering exports from India stood at US$ 65.23 billion in FY17
During FY08–FY17, engineering exports from India registered growth at a CAGR of 7.61 per cent
Engineering exports include transport equipment, capital goods, other machinery/equipment and light engineering products such as castings, forgings and fasteners
In August 2016, engineering exports by India, to its top 25 destinations, registered a growth of 5.8 per cent over August 2015
With the revival of demand for iron and steel in China and the US, India’s engineering exports reached US$58.8 billion in FY16.
During the fiscal year 2016–17, the exports have touched US$65.23 billion, which exceeds the total shipments of US$58.8 billion in 2015–16.

Is we lack of talented engineers? Answer is of course no. We are lacked in finding them, encouraging them, representing them, its not at all issue about students an official, it all about the society who are watching engineers.
