Old School Romance

I miss the kind of love,

That was soft and gentle,

That spoke volumes in a glance,

And involved pining and meetings by chance,

Heartfelt declarations and love letters,

Talking in codes and waiting impatiently in your lover’s street,

When a kiss was censored in the petals of two flowers,

When a lady looked more sensual fully covered,

And a man was by default a gentleman,

And these notions are by no means backward,

But the result of being groomed in a generation where being well mannered,

Was considered a virtue,

And not a sign of being a sissy.

Because those kinds of love last,

Being built on trust and patience,

Having taken your time,

And not a knee jerk hormonal reaction,

Or dares or drunk decisions!

No tinder or bumble,

Just tender feelings

and sweet nothings to mumble.

Take me back to those days,

Where love implicitly meant – always!
