Execute better by focusing on a few key goals

As a CEO, you are given a one-year term. What would you do differently?

A one-year term is a blessing in disguise. The stakeholders do not expect miracles but would like to see some progress on a few initiatives at least. It is an opportunity to set yourself up a leader who executes well and move on to better opportunities.

While others may be pulled into the quagmire of daily activities, as a leader it is best to bring focus to your administration.

Start by making a list of the problems you have.

Identify one or two major problems that will create an impact for the company.

Scope the problem and reduce it to a manageable level.

Work on setting leverage metrics and track them.

Create a dashboard.

Communicate your goal and share your dashboard with the stakeholders.

Adjust as you go along and build trust with the stakeholders.

By bringing focus, you may have avoided the trap of fire-fighting and spreading yourself thin.

Without focus, YOU are lost. The stakeholders do not see value delivered and YOU will be forgotten soon enough.

Show us what you can do in one year before seeking a longer term.
