Critiquing my First UI design

I started pushing pixels on Figma a year ago and continued learning on Coursera, which was my first free UX course.

This was a project I took on concerning the digitalization of blood banks in order to facilitate blood donation and requests.

While doing this, it felt like I was following a tutorial; at the time, I had no idea what the product design entailed; one year later, my knowledge has improved.

I worked on this project for about 6 months and wanted everything to be perfect, thus the delay, but I keep coming back to look at what I did and now I know where I went wrong.

A few things I picked up along the way;

Given my background as a medic and my passion for health technology, I decided to focus my efforts this year on developing majorly health solutions.

Instead of looking for a new project, I decided to redesign my first ever UI project.

I'd keep you updated on my progress.

Understanding the fundamentals of design helped me improve my UI skills. After seeing a lot of good designs by literally going through a lot of case studies and inspirations from other sites and apps, I developed a sixth sense that alerts me to certain things when I see a bad design.

This article only contains my project's onboarding screens, but you can see that the fundamentals were better applied here, from font selection and usage to color choices and buttons and illustration. Spacing and the use of a good grid system for design coherence were not overlooked.

I redid the onboarding screens again and will continue with the rest as I continue to publish articles comparing them.
